EU commits to channelling €6.5bn towards green investments in Czech Republic
As part of an agreement between the European Commission (EC) and Czech Republic, the EC has announced that it will channel investments worth €6.5bn into renewable energy capacity in the region. There will also be a dedicated programme to finance ecosystem restoration and water management. In addition, the Just Transition Fund is expected to bring in €1.5bn towards decarbonisation, job preservation and economic diversification in Czech regions affected by the transition. There is also funding aimed at energy-efficient transport and charging infrastructure. Across the globe, the just transition has come under heightened policy focus, particularly in regions where the expected economic costs of decarbonisation are high.
