Gatehouse Bank retains carbon neutral status for 2021

The UK’s Gatehouse Bank has retained its status as a carbon neutral bank in 2021. The certification, provided by non-profit Carbon Neutral Britain examined the bank’s standards in measuring and offsetting its organisational emissions – the implication being that much of the carbon neutral status pertains to the bank’s offsets. The bank, a founding member of UN Principles for Responsible Banking, has a target of reducing home finance portfolio emissions (its core sector) by 35% by 2030. It first became operationally carbon neutral in 2021, claiming to have offset more emissions than it financed. CEO Charles Haresnape said: “In 2022, we have extended our green offering for homebuyers and landlords, and are proud to have maintained our carbon-neutral status for another year”
