IIGCC launches stewardship toolkit for net-zero investing
The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) has launched a stewardship toolkit for net-zero investors. The toolkit aims to assist investors in developing effective and impactful engagement strategies. According to the toolkit, engagement should take the form of a six-step approach beginning with prioritisation – the process of determining which companies within a portfolio need to be prioritised based on the portfolio’s net-zero strategy and each company’s emissions footprint. Engagement, often understood as an alternative to divestment, is a key tool towards net-zero according to the IIGCC. Stephanie Pfeifer, IIGCC CEO said: “Stewardship is a core driver of long-term value.” Pfeifer added that it is at the core of “effective and transparent corporate management”.
