New Zealand to price agricultural emissions from 2025

New Zealand’s government has said it will “carefully consider” a report from the He Waka Eke Noa – Primary Sector Climate Action Partnership. The report included recommendations from the group on its preferred system for pricing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. Damien O’Connor, agriculture minister, said: “We are all committed to pricing agricultural emissions to ensure their reduction from 2025”. In its 2022 budget, the government has earmarked $380m over four years towards lowering primary sector emissions. It has also established a joint venture with the private sector – the Centre for Climate Action on Agricultural Emissions – to accelerate low-emission product development.
