Chandra Gopinathan, until recently senior investment manager in the Sustainable Ownership team at UK pension fund Railpen, is taking on a new role with BNY Mellon subsidiary Insight Investment.
Gopinathan has been appointed as head of responsible investment research for Insight Investment, a £665bn global asset and risk manager focusing on fixed income, cash management, and LDI strategies for institutional investors. He will be responsible for leading Insight’s sustainability-related research activities and integrating research findings into their decision-making processes.
At Railpen, one of the UK’s longest-established defined benefit funds with £34bn in assets, Gopinathan was accountable for climate strategy, including climate solutions, climate risk management, net zero strategy, and engagement across the fund’s fiduciary and investment management teams.
He also played an active role in advisory groups such as the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI), the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), and the FCA Climate Financial Risk Forum (CFRF).
Among other achievements, Gopinathan played an instrumental role in shaping the IIGCC’s approach to bondholder stewardship, contributing, for example, to the group’s guidance on labelled and unlabelled debt.
