Why fashion is not on trend when it comes to sustainability
Results from the BoF (Business of Fashion) Sustainability Index 2022 suggest that some of the largest firms in the fashion industry are yet to pick up momentum in their climate change targets, policies and agendas. In 2021, the World Economic Forum listed fashion as one of the “big eight” supply chains that collectively account for around half of the world's emissions. The Climate Council thinktank estimated the fashion industry’s annual CO2 emissions at 1.2 billion tonnes. Back in 2018, some large firms came together to create the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. Yet, the BoF data suggests that there is more work to be done to ensure that the industry is on track to meet net-zero goals.
