Activists shut down TotalEnergies AGM

Two hundred and fifty activists from Greenpeace, the environmental activist group, protested and shut down the TotalEnergies annual general meeting in Paris on 25 May 2022 in response to the company's stance on Russia and fossil fuels. According to Greenpeace, TotalEnergies has placed Russian gas supply at the core of its strategic focus and is yet to announce an end to all new fossil fuel projects such as those in Uganda and Mozambique. Activist pressure over fossil fuel companies has grown significantly over the last decade. While shareholder expectations are often cited as the primary channel for climate agendas to enter boardrooms, activist pressures are also a growing source.
