Downing Renewable Developments secures planning consent for battery storage facility

Downing Renewable Developments (DRD) has received planning consent for a major battery storage facility in the UK marking the first approved site in its renewable energy portfolio developed in partnership with FCC Environment.

The Edwin Richards Energy Storage Park, located near Rowley Regis, in the West Midlands will have a capacity of up to 100 MW / 200 MWh—enough to power around 300,000 homes for two hours. The project was designed in collaboration with FCC Environment to align with the company’s operational needs and community commitments. When operational, the project will be owned and operated by one of the Downing-managed energy funds

This approval is part of DRD’s broader partnership with FCC Environment to develop a portfolio of renewable energy sites, including onshore wind, battery storage, and solar farms. DRD, which was established by investment manager Downing, has a 6GW pipeline of renewable projects across the UK. Last year, it secured planning consent for a 49.9 MW solar farm in Norfolk.

Downing currently manages £920m in renewable energy assets and is focused on expanding its clean energy infrastructure through its Downing-managed energy funds.
