Dutch pension fund secures majority stake in sustainable forestry asset
A Dutch pension fund secured a majority stake in a sustainable forestry asset furthering its ambition to commit €11bn to climate and biodiversity impact investments by 2030.
APG Asset Management (APG), acting on behalf of Dutch pension fund ABP, acquired a majority ownership interest in a 70,000-hectare sustainable forestry asset in the southern United States through Molpus Woodlands Group.
It represents one of the largest timberland transactions in the US in recent years, totalling $462m.
Through sustainable forest management, the asset is expected to add close to 2m tonnes of standing forest carbon over the next 15 years, APG said.
Chris Martin, portfolio manager in the Americas Private Natural Capital division at APG said: “This investment demonstrates how we can deliver on our client’s ambition for real biodiversity and climate impact at scale without compromising on returns.”
