E3G: supporting households need not come at cost of limiting decarbonisation progress

According to environmental think tank E3G, the UK government is planning to divert funds from its Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) into a scheme to support household energy efficiency. E3G argues that while supporting household energy efficiency is certainly a welcome move, sacrificing the PSDS to support that objective could be a costly decision. As an example, according to the analysis, the UK’s National Health Service could lose £519m. Colm Britchfield, researcher at E3G, said: “There is no need for the [UK] government to choose between investing in hospitals or homes. It can and should do both, by keeping the public sector fund and expanding support to help households upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes and save money on their energy bills.”
