EasyJet launches plan to target net-zero emissions by 2050

British airline easyJet has announced a plan to target net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. A critical component of easyJet’s ambitious plan involves working with industry partners such as Airbus and Rolls-Royce to develop low-emission aircraft technologies including hydrogen-powered aircraft. The plan also includes a focus on sustainable aviation fuel and increased fuel-efficiency of routes. According to the airline, the move is a response to new evidence that shows significant consumer support for net-zero aviation. Johan Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, said: “Challenging the status quo is in easyJet’s DNA. Today, we’re the first airline to outline an ambitious roadmap in which zero-carbon emission technology plays a key role to take us to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. And 82% of the British public agree with us, believing that zero-carbon emission flying is the best approach to truly decarbonise aviation.”
