Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) is providing a €150 million (DKK 1.1bn) project financing guarantee for a new offshore wind farm in Taiwan developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
The Fengmiao I wind farm will have a capacity of 495 MW. Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas is supplying 33 of its V236-15MW turbines, while Semco Maritime will contribute to the offshore substation through a joint venture.
The project is backed by a total project financing package of NTD 103 billion (DKK 21.2bn) from 27 international and Taiwanese banks. EIFO is one of four export credit agencies providing guarantees.
CIP has signed power purchase agreements with six major Taiwanese companies, which will buy the electricity generated by Fengmiao I. This is CIP’s third offshore wind project in Taiwan, following Changfang & Xidao and Zhongneng, where Vestas also supplied turbines.
Peter Boeskov, EIFO’s chief commercial officer, said the financing aligned with the agency’s strategy to support green energy and boost Danish exports.
The deal strengthens ties between key Danish players and Taiwan’s offshore wind industry. Frank Holm of Semco Maritime said the company was proud to contribute to the Fengmiao I project and deepen partnerships with EIFO, CIP and Vestas.
The agreement follows EIFO’s recent backing of Ørsted’s Greater Changhua 4 wind project and builds on its broader role in financing more than 30 percent of the world’s installed offshore wind capacity outside China.
Vestas APAC president Purvin Patel said the project highlighted how collaboration with EIFO was helping to accelerate the global energy transition.
