ICCT says introduction of SAFs could lead to aviation price increases

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), an independent research organisation, has proposed a set of scenarios under which the aviation industry can align with the Paris climate targets. The scenarios are built around six parameters: sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), zero-emission planes, traffic, aircraft technology, economic incentives and operations. A key finding in the report is that when SAFs are introduced, the consumer and fuel cost of aviation could rise. The report states: "We conclude that new technologies under development can cut aviation CO2 to near zero in 2050, but that immediate action is needed from governments to peak emissions this decade to put aviation on a 1.75ºC pathway."
