London’s mayor announces the city’s tube network will be entirely powered by renewables by 2030.
The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has announced that the city’s tube network is on track to run entirely on renewable energy sources by 2030. The announcement was based on a power purchase agreement tender launched by Transport for London (TfL). According to the statement, TfL expects that by 2030 its operational energy demand would be supplied solely by renewable electricity. The statement reads,” the tender will guarantee that the electricity supplied to power the Tube and TfL’s operations through the contract will come from renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power. TfL’s large demand for renewable source electricity will help increase demand for new solar and wind generation in the UK, which will help to create new green jobs and support the economy”.
