Three major European managers, Edmond de Rothschild, Mirova and Robeco have teamed up to launch a new Avoided Emisisons Platform aimed at helping investors track how climate solutions impact emissions reductions.
The new platform is an interactive tool which models the avoided emission factors for 65 climate solutions. It is based on an open access methodology for calculating avoided emissions, often referred to as “Scope 4”.
Lucian Peppelenbos, climate & biodiversity strategist at Robeco explains that the platform was launched on the back of strong client demand to measure the impact of their investments in climate solutions.
“Our climate products, such as the Smart Energy and the Global Climate Transition funds, have been investing in climate solutions for many years. This new database will help us credibly quantify their true contribution to climate mitigation” he explains.
The initiative is backed by a growing number of partners, including multinational corporations, ESG data providers and one major French pension fund manager.
The platform targets a variety of stakeholders, from financial institutions over companies to regulators and academics. It has been developed with the backing of consultants I Care and Quantis alongside input from a dedicated scientific committee.
The platform can be accessed with a license and will be expanded over time with new solutions.
