Scottish Highlands ‘could become green energy powerhouse’

According to Highland Council leader Raymond Bremner, this part of the north of Scotland has the potential to become a “green energy powerhouse”. Speaking at the Highlands and Islands Green Energy Conference, Bremner said: “According to estimates, the Highland has the potential to generate a third of Europe’s energy demand, which could cement Highland’s potential to become a powerhouse for Europe”. The Scottish Highlands have assets and natural features, he said, that are conducive to the development of a range of renewable energy systems including wind, hydro and tidal energy. Bremner also stated that the region has an abundance of water and electricity capacity, which are “ingredients for the production of green hydrogen at scale”.
