UK home construction giant Taylor Wimpey sets net zero by 2035 target

Taylor Wimpey, one of the largest home construction companies in the UK, has set a target to net zero aligned in its operations by 2035 and to reach net zero across its value chain by 2045.

As a supporting target, the company has pledged that by 2030 all its homes will be “zero carbon ready”, though only becoming “true net zero” upon decarbonisation of the UK’s electricity grid.

The net zero target was developed with the Carbon Trust in line with the requirements of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Corporate Net Zero Standard. Taylor Wimpey has submitted its target for validation by the SBTi and expects to receive this later in the year.

Jennie Daly, chief executive of Taylor Wimpey, said: “Sustainability is formally integrated into our strategy as one of our four strategic cornerstones, reflecting its importance to our business and our stakeholders.”

Last month, a report from ECI Software Solutions showed that the UK’s plans for net zero are hampered by issues within the carbon intensive construction sector.
