Aware Super’s London presence: big bets on big tickets
Katya Romashkan, portfolio manager infrastructure, at Aware Super's London office explains how the fund how the fund is positioning itself amid a rapidly changing energy transition landscape
Aware Super’s recently opened London office faces a unique challenge. Launched at the end of 2023, the team is tasked with deploying and managing around A$10bn (£5.25bn) in private market assets across the UK and Europe. These sit within the Australian pension giant’s broader private markets allocation. The A$200bn (£98bn) fund has nearly a quarter of its portfolio invested in unlisted assets.
The challenge for the London office lies in the combination of a comparatively small team and significant ticket sizes. The infrastructure team currently consists of four specialists based in London. Although they work in close collaboration with Aware Super’s headquarters in Sydney, the set-up places significant responsibility on the London office, requiring it to take large, concentrated positions in a rapidly evolving infrastructure landscape.
